Tásti Tip #2 (What is Astringency, Dry, Tannic?)
Tásti Tip #3 (The SanTásti “Wow” Demo)

Tásti Tip # 3 (The SanTásti “Wow” Demo)

“Wow” is the word that we hear most often after a taster tries SanTásti for the first time. It is a fantastic and inspiring response that we love to hear. To set the “Wow” demo you will need a bottle of SanTásti, a white wine, a red wine and three glasses… unless you want to drink from the bottles. By following the steps below, you will be able to see how effective SanTásti is at cleansing your palate.

1. (White Wine)
Taste your white wine to get a general feeling of how it tastes.
2. (Red Wine)
Taste your red wine to coat your palate with tannins.
3. (White Wine)
Taste your white wine and note how the red wine affected it.
4. (Red Wine)
Taste your red wine again to recoat your palate with tannins.
5. (SanTásti)
Cleanse your palate by taking a couple of sips of SanTásti.
6. (White Wine)
Taste your white wine and note the difference between steps 1, 2 and 5.

Things to look for:
• The white wine taste like it did before the red
• The removal of dryness from the palate after SanTásti
• Without SanTásti the white wine doesn’t taste very good after a red

Quick Tip: This experiment also works great with a Port in place of the red wine. Simply replace the red wine in this experiment to see an even greater effect!

This demo is a great way of showing you and your tasters how fun palate cleansing can be. Now that you have SanTásti as your palate cleanser, go and enjoy more flavors from more foods.

Until next time

Tásti Tip # 2 (What is Astringency, Dry, Tannic?)

SanTásti classic is a complement to your wine tasting experience. Not only does it help you taste more, but it is also an excellent educational tool.

Today we are going to talk about using SanTásti to help you understand astringency and the tannin component of wine structure.

What is astringency? I would define it as a dry, rough and tightening sensation in the mouth caused by tannins. This varies from wine to wine depending on the age, type and style. For example, red wines have significantly higher tannin levels than white wines. Older reds have smoother tannins than younger reds. It’s simple!

SanTásti will help you understand tannins and astringency by taste. Just follow along with this tasting.

1. Cleanse your palate with SanTásti classic
2. Taste some red wine (move the wine around in your mouth to really coat your palate)
3. Take note of the way your palate feels (look for the dry and rough sensation)
4. Cleanse your palate with SanTásti classic
5. Take note of the way your palate feels (look for the absence of dryness and roughness)

What was once there as astringency is now gone. Try it a few more times until you have your tastes dialed in. Now you will be able to correctly describe the wine as tannic or astringent.

Quick Tip: Even though astringency gives a dry sensation, the word “dry” has another meaning to people of the wine world. The term “dry” refers to the amount of residual sugar left in the wine. A wine that has almost all/ or all of its fermentable sugars fermented is termed “fermented to dryness” and is considered a dry wine.

When talking about wine and using your newfound abilities to differentiate the astringent components of wine remember to do so with confidence. And don’t forget to have fun.

Until next time,

Andrew

The first Tásti tip! (How to order SanTásti)

What is that amazing beverage I have been hearing so much about? San Tasty? Son Tastee? Santa’s Tea?

Don’t worry. We all know that wine can be an intimidating beverage. It has hard names to pronounce like Sangiovese, Petite Verdot, Mourvèdre, or even Gewürztraminer. As consumers we can not let anything intimidate us from enjoying the social and health benefits that wine has to offer. We at SanTásti are out to demystify wine and open the doors for more people to enjoy all of the flavors that wine has to offer.

Accordingly, we don’t care how you ask for SanTásti as long as you enjoy it! But if you want to say it like we do, it’s easy. Simply sound it out as “san-tas-tea” and before you know it you will be enjoying the benefits of a clean palate.

Until next time,

Andrew
